The enchanting island of Isla Mujeres (island of the women) is just a short ferry ride from Cancun and is a “must visit” during your vacation. Only five miles long by two-and-a-half miles wide, this tropical island charms each and every person who visits.

“Isla”, as it is affectionately called by locals, is a laid back place where visitors can snorkel, swim with the dolphins, visit a sea turtle sanctuary or a pirate’s fortress (Fortress of Mundaca), stroll and shop along the quaint downtown streets or simply relax on a dreamy white sand beach.

The island is also home to Garrafon National Park, a natural park with various attractions and activities like kayaking, snorkeling, ziplining. Travelers won’t want to miss the spectacular ocean views from the cliffs of Punta Sur (the southernmost point of the island) where there is also an ancient Mayan structure that was used to worship the goddess of fertility, Ixchel.
