October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This effort was organized in 1985 in order to create awareness and raise funding for research into the cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and a cure.
The pink ribbon is the international symbol for breast cancer awareness. The pink ribbon was first used when the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed them out to participants in its New York City race for breast cancer survivors.
Another goal of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to encourage women to perform monthly breast exams themselves. It is assumed that early detection can improve treatment outcomes. More than 80% of breast cancer cases are discovered when the woman feels a lump.
Hacienda Tres Rios joins the cause by donating to the cause for each reservation made in October.
