Hi Charlene,

We agree that the practices by the Japanese in Taiji are terrible, frightening and inhumane. The dolphins at Dolphin Discovery are not captured nor purchase but are bred in captivity and are extremely well cared for. I was a bit leery of the entire thing myself, until I spoke with a friend that works for DD and then participated in the activity myself in order to write this article. Knowing that ecological practices are of the utmost importance to Hacienda Tres Rios, we hope that you trust our judgement, however if you cannot, please investigate further into the Dolphin Discovery program yourself.

As much as I love Tres Rios and have proved it by buying into it with my husband, I strongly object to its promoting "Swimming with the Dolphins", This is a program that promotes the capturing and selling of dolphins by the Japanese in Taiji as seen in "The Cove" as well as keeping these animals captive. If you truly promoted Eco-practices across the board, you would no longer promote this as an activity available through Tres Rios. Dolphin watches can be done without harming these magnificent animals. On the Paul Gauguin cruises, they offer whale and dolphin watches of wild dolphins and whales - they only associate with activities that are non-harming to sea life and educating the public.
